The Joy of Health!

By Doc Weeter | April 2, 2007

I want you to look at these two quotes back to back and tell me what the problem is with THIS picture!!!

“When we laugh, natural killer cells which destroy tumors and viruses increase, along with Gamma-interferon (a disease-fighting protein), T-cells (important for our immune system) and B-cells (which make disease-fighting antibodies). As well as lowering blood pressure, laughter increases oxygen in the blood, which also encourages healing.” “Science of Laughter” Discovery Health Website

“By the time a child reaches nursery school, he or she will laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh an average of 17 times a day.” “Science of Laughter” Discovery Health

Would you mind explaining to me why we try to set ourselves up for illness?!  Not to mention setting ourselves up for old age!  When was the last time you had a great big, tears rolling down your cheeks, slapping your knee, belly laugh?  Don’t hurt yourself trying to remember!  If you’re like most people, it’s been way too long.  It seems that most people are way too caught up in themselves, their jobs and in these things we call lifestyles to enjoy laughter and joy.

University of Maryland Media News has several articles that offers results of a study that shows a good sense of humor may help prevent heart disease and heart attacks.  They also have a multiple-choice humor survey to rate your “laugh protection” against heart disease.  You can find that link to the left of this page.  By the way, I scored a 63!  I could stand a little improvement but not too bad!

Click on the audio link below and let’s look at some of the additional things that joy can help with and talk about getting some joy back into our lives!
